WOODS, MICKELSON, WESTWOOD, STRICKER, FURYK AND ELS TEE UP AT "WORLD GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS: BRIDGESTONE INVITATIONAL" THIS WEEKEND, AUGUST 7-8, ON CBS SPORTS

Defending champion Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are among the world's top players aiming for a WORLD GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS: BRIDGESTONE INVITATIONAL title this week as CBS Sports broadcasts the third and final rounds of the star-powered tournament on Saturday, Aug. 7 (2:00-6:00 PM, ET) and Sunday, Aug. 8 (1:00-6:00 PM, ET), live from Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.

 

Seven-time winner Tiger Woods looks for another victory at the World Golf Championships: Bridgestone Invitational which would tie Sam Snead's PGA TOUR record for the most wins in a single tournament with eight. Snead won eight times in Greensboro.  In 10 starts at the Bridgestone Invitational, Woods has never finished outside of the top five. Overall, he has won a record 16 World Golf Championships events in 31 starts.   Phil Mickelson, the world's No. 2-ranked player and No. 5 in the FedExCup standings, looks to win his third-career victory in a World Golf Championships event and his first at the Bridgestone Invitational. Twenty-eight out of the top 30 in current FedExCup standing have qualified for the field of 82 this week which includes Ernie Els, who has led the FedExCup standings for 19 straight weeks, Steve Stricker, Lee Westwood, Jim Furyk, Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy, Paul Casey, Anthony Kim, Ian Poulter, Justin Rose, Louis Oosthuizen, Graeme McDowell, Sean O'Hair, Geoff Ogilvy, Camilo Villegas, Robert Allenby, Angel Cabrera, Tim Clark, Rickie Fowler, Y.E. Yang, Lucas Glover, Matt Kuchar, Retief Goosen, Sergio Garcia, Henrik Stenson, Stewart Appleby, Padraig Harrington,  Ryo Ishikawa, Zach Johnson,   Nick Watney, Adam Scott, Hunter Mahan, Scott Verplank, J.B. Holmes, K.J. Choi, Kenny Perry and V.J. Singh.

 

  Jim Nantz, the 2009 and 2008 Emmy Award Winner for "Outstanding Sports Personality - Play-by-Play" and 2009 and 2008 National Sportscaster of the Year, serves as anchor of CBS Sports' golf coverage. Sir Nick Faldo, winner of six major championships and more than 40 tournaments worldwide, serves as lead analyst. Ian Baker-Finch calls the action at the 17th hole, Gary McCord at the 16th hole and Peter Kostis at the 15th hole.   David Feherty serves as on-course reporter.  Lance Barrow is Coordinating Producer and Steve Milton is Director of CBS Sports' golf coverage.  Harold Bryant is Vice President, Production, CBS Sports.

"PGA CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW SHOW:  PRELUDE TO THE SEASON'S FINAL MAJOR" BROADCAST BEFORE WGC-BRIDGETONE INVITATIONAL ON SUNDAY

 

            As CBS Sports prepares to broadcast golf's final major of the year, the 92nd PGA Championship, CBS Sports features a PGA CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW SHOW: PRELUDE TO THE SEASON'S FINAL MAJOR on Sunday, Aug. 8 (12:00 Noon-1:00 PM, ET).  Hosted by Bill Macatee, this special will feature a round table discussion with CBS Sports golf anchor Jim Nantz, lead analyst Sir Nick Faldo, Ian Baker-Finch, David Feherty and Peter Kostis as they take a look at this year's field and the many challengers Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.  In addition, CBS Sports follows Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in a round of golf on the 2010 PGA Championship "The Straits Course."  Interviews include No. 4 world-ranked and No. 2 in the FedExCup standings Steve Stricker, who is the home state favorite and 2004 PGA Champion at Whistling Straits, V.J.
