Mayim Hoya Bialik earned her first Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her role as Amy Farrah Fowler in 2012 and continued to be nominated within the same category for four consecutive years. In addition, she received a 2014 SAG Award nomination for Outstanding Female Actor in a Comedy Series. Most recently, she won the 2018 Critic’s Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
Bialik began her successful acting career as a child and was previously best known for her lead role as Blossom Russo in the early 1990s sitcom “Blossom.” Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, she made guest appearances on some of television’s most beloved shows, including “Murphy Brown” on the Network, “MacGyver,” “Webster” and “The Facts of Life.” More recently, she appeared in the television series “Fat Actress” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Bialik’s other television credits include a recurring role on “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.”
On the big screen, Bialik played the young Bette Midler in the film “Beaches,” and appeared in Woody Allen’s “Don’t Drink the Water.”
In 2000 Bialik earned a B.S. in neuroscience and Hebrew and Jewish studies from UCLA. She continued her studies at the university, earning a Ph.D. in neuroscience in 2007, with a doctorate examining obsessive-compulsive disorder in adolescents with Prader-Willi syndrome.
Bialik has been the spokesperson for a multitude of brands, including Texas Instruments, Gillette, DeVry University, Capitol One, Fisher Price and City of Hope.
A certified Lactation Educator Counselor, Bialik gave birth to a son in 2005 and a second son (born at home, largely unassisted) in 2008. In March 2012, she released her first book on attachment parenting, Beyond the Sling, followed by the 2014 release of her vegan cookbook Mayim’s Vegan Table. In 2017 she published her #1 New York Times bestseller Girling Up: How to be Strong, Smart and Spectacular and followed it up in 2018 with Boying Up: How to Be Brave, Bold and Brilliant.
Bialik is the founder of the website Grok Nation which is an online community for people of all ages and backgrounds to dive deep into conversations on contemporary issues.
Born in San Diego to first-generation Jewish American parents, Bialik now lives in Los Angeles with her two sons. She serves on the board of a variety of Jewish philanthropic organizations, and started ShamayimVaretz.com, a Kosher/vegan institute, Also, she invested in the vegan Los Angeles-based restaurant, Buddha Bodai One. Bialik studies weekly, independently and through Partners in Torah, speaks for a variety of organizations around the United States, and keeps a traditional Jewish home, caring for her boys.
