TONIGHT’S VERY TIMELY EPISODE ON “THE UNICORN”

Tonight, THE UNICORN episode deals with the sensitive issue of racial injustice. Below is the letter the executive producers wrote explaining how it came to be. The episode was directed by former NFL wide receiver and Academy Award-winning director Matthew A. Cherry (the 2019 short film “Hair Love”).

THE UNICORN executive producers Bill Martin and Mike Schiff: “When the writers’ room for THE UNICORN got back together this summer to start work on season two, the country was in the midst of the social upheaval that followed the death of George Floyd. We all felt like our show should address it in some way, however our show is not naturally an ‘issue’ show, and we didn’t want to fall into the trap of doing a ‘very special episode.’”

“Then, one day we had Omar Miller pop into the writers zoom room to talk about stories, and Rob Corddry popped in with him. Omar asked us if we planned on addressing what the country was going through, and we told him we were still looking for the right way to do it. That’s when one of our writers, Howard Jordan, Jr. jumped in with an idea for Ben (Omar) and Forrest (Rob): Forrest gives a water pistol to Ben’s son Noah, and Ben has to take it away from him. Omar and Rob instantly started to run with it, and the story just took off. It was the right scale for our show, and everyone got excited about it. Howard wrote a terrific script, and we were lucky to have one of our favorite directors, Matthew Cherry, come back to direct it.”

SEAL TEAM ADDS SOME PEPPER TO THE SQUAD

On Dec. 9, a new canine member will join SEAL TEAM. Meet “Pepper,” the 2 ½-year-old Dutch Shepherd that will be joining Bravo Team next week. Pepper (both her real and character name) was named after a special forces dog that died on the Tigres River in Iraq a few years ago. Pepper was born in Hulsburg, Netherlands, and has a training background in single purposes explosive detection. When she is not on set, Pepper loves snuggling by the fire and swimming in the ocean.

ANNE HECHE IS COMING TO “ALL RISE”

Emmy-nominated actress Anne Heche will be recurring on ALL RISE as “Corrine Cuthbert.” Corrine is an infamous trial attorney who is often called upon by police unions to defend officers accused of violent crime. She is wicked smart, using humor as a distraction while she verbally destroys anyone who gets in her way. Heche’s episodes will be scheduled to air after the New Year.

THEY SAY IT THERE, IT COMES OUT HERE

Jaime Pressly (MOM) during Zoom interview with WJZ-TV in Baltimore: “I named my son Dezi after Desi Arnaz even though I spell it differently because he was one of two men that created the multi-camera sit-com format…which is what I work in now. It’s my favorite format to work in.”
