SIXTEEN AMERICANS ARE MAROONED ON A REMOTE ISLAND

IN THE SOUTH CHINA SEA, AS THE REALITY/ADVENTURE SERIES "SURVIVOR" PREMIERES WEDNESDAY, MAY 31,

ON THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK

Sixteen real-life Americans are marooned on a remote island off the coast of Borneo in the South China Sea as SURVIVOR, the new one-hour reality/adventure series, premieres Wednesday, May 31 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Scott Messick directed the series, which is hosted by Jeff Probst.

A tropical island off the coast of Malaysia provides the stunningly beautiful, yet amazingly challenging, backdrop for SURVIVOR, the highly anticipated series that brings together a unique group of adventure-seekers to participate in a rigorous competition of physical and mental endurance.

In the premiere episode, the 16 diverse individuals begin their adventure, each hoping to become the last one to survive the full 39 days on the island.  The 16 castaways are divided into two teams, which are referred to as tribes.

Upon arrival at their respective beaches, the "Pagong" tribe and the "Tagi" tribe take stock of their surroundings and minimal supplies, begin building their shelter, attempt to light fire and participate in their first challenge game.

The tribe that loses the challenge then makes the long hike through the jungle on day three to participate in that evening's tribal council meeting to vote the first individual off the island.
