SHOWTIME ACQUIRES “JUST KIDS”

PATTI SMITH’S BEST-SELLING MEMOIR ABOUT HER LIFE

WITH PHOTOGRAPHER ROBERT MAPPLETHORPE TO BE A LIMITED SERIES

OSCAR® NOMINEE JOHN LOGAN TO CO-WRITE AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCE WITH PATTI SMITH

LOS ANGELES – August 11, 2015 – Patti Smith’s much sought after memoir, Just Kids, has landed at Showtime. Co-written and produced by Patti Smith and three-time Academy Award® nominee John Logan, the memoir will be developed into a SHOWTIME limited series, to be produced with Logan's Desert Wolf Productions.

Just Kids is one of my favorite memoirs of all time,” said David Nevins, President of Showtime Networks Inc.  “Not only is it a fascinating portrait of artists coming of age, but it’s also an inspiring story of friendship, love and endurance. I’m so thrilled that Patti Smith will bring her unique voice to writing the scripts along with the gifted John Logan, who has been doing such a phenomenal job with Penny Dreadful for us.”

“A limited series on Showtime will allow us to explore the characters more deeply, enabling us to develop stories beyond the book and allow a measure of unorthodox presentation,” says Smith.  “The medium of a television limited series offers narrative freedom and a chance to expand upon the themes of the book.”

Patti Smith is a writer, performer, and visual artist. She gained recognition in the 1970s for her revolutionary merging of poetry and rock. Her bestselling memoir Just Kids received the National Book Award and has been translated in over 40 languages. She has recorded twelve albums, including “Horses,” which has been hailed as one of the top one hundred debut albums of all time by Rolling Stone. In 2005 the French Ministry of Culture awarded Smith the prestigious title of Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres, the highest honor given to an artist by the French Republic. And in 2007, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

John Logan received the Tony®, Drama Desk, Outer Critic Circle and Drama League awards for his play Red, which has had more than 200 productions across the United States and has been presented in over 30 countries. In 2013, his play Peter and Alice premiered in London, and I’ll Eat You Last: A Chat with Sue Mengers opened on Broadway. As a screenwriter, Logan has been nominated three times for the Oscar and has received a Golden Globe®, BAFTA and Writers Guild Award. His film work includes Skyfall, Hugo, The Aviator, Gladiator, Rango, Coriolanus, Sweeney Todd, The Last Samurai, Any Given Sunday and RKO 281. He created and executive produces Penny Dreadful for Showtime, which was recently picked up for a third season to air in 2016.
