WHAT: A young soldier is accused of killing the woman he loves. Was Jacque Villagomez a casualty of war?

WHO: Troy Roberts reports on the case of Pvt. John Needham, a decorated soldier who was Medivac-ed from Iraq and later diagnosed with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Investigators say John beat his 19-year-old girlfriend to death with his bare hands — and while John took responsibility for Jacque’s death, he remembers little of the crime, recognizing only that something inside him snapped. 48 HOURS MYSTERY explores the murder of Jacque Villagomez, as well as whether John’s TBI and PTSD might have played a role in her death.

WHEN:  Saturday, Nov. 12 (10:00 PM, ET/PT)

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH: By Jan. 1, American troops are scheduled to be withdrawn from Iraq.  Many will come home with profound physical and mental health issues. You’ll hear from Pvt. John Needham, describing the physical and psychological impact that combat had on him; his father, who describes how the horrors of war ravaged his son’s mind and body; and Dr. Richard Friedman, a professor of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College, who speaks to the permanent impact TBI can have on a person.

Plus, we’ll share the document obtained by 48 HOURS MYSTERY that sheds light on how the United States Army handled the allegations of war crimes that Pvt. Needham brought against his unit. This 48 HOURS MYSTERY investigation tells one soldier’s story with an outcome no one could have predicted.

On Saturday, Nov. 12 from 10:00 – 11:00 PM, ET, Roberts will debate the case on Facebook, while the producers of 48 HOURS MYSTERY will lead the conversation on Twitter.
